We started today with an early trip out on a safari through the hills, mountains, and rivers of New Zealand. We loaded up in Land Rovers and headed for the scenic regions of the Southern Alps.
The movie Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand.....and we stopped at several spots to see how they adapted the landscape for the movie. New Zealand is known as Middle Earth for its Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. New Zealand born Peter Jackson filmed the entire six films in various locations around New Zealand. Queenstown, New Zealand's adventure capital, was the setting for numerous scenes including the Eregion Hills, and the Pillars of Argonath.
Our Land Rover was unstoppable.....through the rocky rivers, icy roads, and snow capped mountains.....no obstacle was too big for this beast. We visited the old gold town of Arrowtown and were shown how to pan for gold in the river.
Then, we headed for the mountains. Today it was snowing! Nothing quite like playing in the snow in July!!!
