Another miserable day in New Zealand....all this wet weather is starting to drive us crazy! We're actually starting to get DEPRESSED on vacation! We needed a little pick-me-up.....so last night we decided to eat out at an expensive steakhouse in Queenstown (The Flame). It was absolutely the best steak we've ever had! And then we were depressed again when we got the bill.
Today we traveled to Mt. Cook which is the highest mountain in New Zealand reaching a peak of over 3700 feet. We were hoping to take a helicopter ride up the mountain glaciers but unfortunately, we didn't even get the chance to SEE the mountain. The clouds and snow storms were so bad today that we couldn't see anything! There was thunder and lightning during the snow storm. That was a new experience for us!
Can it get any worse?
There certainly "wool" be hell to pay if this weather continues! Between "ewe" and me I was looking forward to our visit to the Morelea Farm. This family raises over 800 sheep on their farm, and we would see firsthand how the sheep dogs are trained to "round them all up."
I told Jenesa to "shear" up when the tour started. Here is where they clip the wool from the sheep for auction. Some wool is used for carpet....and the others is used for clothing (Merino sweaters). These sweaters are a combination of wool and possum....which can be purchased at any store in New Zealand for only $200+ dollars! No thank you.....I'm a sheepskate!
They say every dog "wool" have its day. Today this dog wasted no time rounding up the sheep with a bit of frantic running, aggressive barking and eye contact.
