Finding Nemo!

We are in Cairns (produced “cans”) for the next two nights. This region of Australia is home to tropical rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef! Our trip to the Reef started bright and early.....and we couldn't wait. Who wouldn't want the chance to see one of the great wonders of the world?

We boarded a catamaran and set sail 2 hours for the outer reef. The ride was anything but fun! The weather was cloudy and very chilly. Every wave we hit threw water up and over the boat directly on us.....brrrrrrr!!

All the Japanese tourists were throwing up all over the inside cabin! It was a little crazy.....until we started seeing whales! Three whales surfaced and came up out of the water to wave their tails at us. It definitely lifted our spirits.

We weren't quite sure what to expect when we got to the Reef.  As we kept getting closer and closer I saw what appeared to be a "white wall" surrounding the entire area. This “white wall” was actually the waves crashing in on the Reef. Very cool!

Once we docked at the floating reef station.....we journeyed out onto a submersive ship to see the reef below.

After a quick lunch....we rented wet suits and planned to hit the water snorkeling. It was our first experience with wet suits.....and with the weather being so chilly......we thought it was worth it to rent these suits to keep us warm. I wish I had a video of Jenesa attempting to put on her wet suit. It was beyond funny....and she was beyond help! Those suckers were so tight that we couldn't breath for the first 30 minutes we had them on.

Out in the reef.....the coral was so lush and plenty I wish I had an underwater camera. We've been snorkeling before, but this was the real deal. It felt like some of the coral was going to come up and just grab and pull you into the reef.  We saw some really cool, colorful fish.....and almost swam right into a fish the size of us! Whoa!

Yep....all fun and games until a shark appears! That's what was constantly racing through my mind the entire afternoon......hoping the taste of a rubber wet suit wouldn't attract Jaws.
